August in MaineGreetings, "I’d spend August in Rockport, Maine. One day I’d give to the annual antique show, one day to a sail on a schooner, and one day to the Shakespeare play up the road at Camden. The other twenty-eight days of August, I’d sit still, contemplating the perfect harbor
of Rockport, Maine." - Charles Kuralt, the television journalist who was known for his popular series On the Road
Me, I'd spend all of August in DownEast, Maine. I'd paint every day and eat as many lobsters as humanly possible from a seaside shack, seated at a picnic table, nestled in a quiet cove. It wouldn't get much better than that! That's my perfect August, what's yours? I hope you enjoy what's left of
summer!

Lifeguard Races $3,300
I was painting along the surf in Brigantine, New Jersey and happened to catch the annual lifeguard races between the Brigantine,
Atlantic City and Margate squads. It was fun to incorporate a group of figures into a seascape.

10" x 14" Original Watercolor by Joel Popadics Sunset Ocean Gate, Island Beach State Park $1,700 The dunes at Island Beach State Park are as
picturesque as any I've seen along the Northeast coast. I particularly love the blue shadows that fall across the sand in the late afternoon hours.

Upcoming Watercolor Workshops Join me on a watercolor workshop in 2024. A workshop can do wonders for your art and spirit. A few days of intense painting can help to overcome creative blocks and ruts or simply take your skills to the next level. If you have ever attended one of my workshops, you know that I provide individual instruction in addition to live
demonstrations where I teach you my process and techniques. Best of all, it's fun and encouraging to paint with others in a group!

Speaking of Maine, I really enjoy their wild blueberries. Smaller than the ones back home, they’re full of flavor, incredibly sweet and loaded with antioxidants - which means they're really good for you, too. But, perhaps best of all, they make a terrific pie! Here are a few of my go-to places in Maine for the best
blueberry pies.
Wild Blueberry Land 1067 US-1 Columbia Falls, ME Wild Blueberry Land is a quintessential American roadside attraction that just happens to make a great pie. The bakery is housed in a dome-like structure that resembles a giant blueberry. Need a blueberry teapot? Or, how about a pint of blueberry syrup? They've got everything themed "blueberry" for sale. Helen's Restaurant 111 Main Street Machias, Maine Save your fork for after dinner at Helen's Restaurant on scenic Route 1 along the Machias River in DownEast Maine for a slice of their blueberry pie ala mode. It's a little pricey, but worth every penny. Weaver's Roadside Variety 1386 Waterville Road Waldo, ME Don't let the gas station
out front discourage you from entering this convenience store/bakery. Their blueberry pie is one of the best kept secrets in Midcoast, Maine.
I hope you enjoyed this newsletter and reading what's new with me and my work. Please feel free to share this with everyone you know. I'm working hard to build a larger following for my art and teaching and I can only succeed with the help of friends like you. Thanks so much for your continued support. Wishing you all the
best and Happy Summer! Joel Joel Popadics, AWS, ASMA Watercolorist
